Gulf Coast Tuna Fishing "ON FIRE"
While the regular Red Snapper season Closed on August 5th in Louisiana it remains open in Ala. and Fl., in State waters. Federal waters closed on Midnight August 5th. So we had to turn our full time attention to Tuna fishing and the month of august has been great so far. While La. Offshore waters have seen alot of green water, even as far out as 120NM, the tuna bite has been great. Record YFT have been brought to dock from as near in as 30NM to as far out as the long ranger floater in the Green Cayon. The usual 40-60lbs. Schoolie YFT have been present in great numbers but so have their bigger brothers and sisters. Several fish have touched the 200lb mark and plenty of 150+lbers are being caught on the floaters. In addition to Tuna, the Mangrove Snappers have been starving and eating anything and everything. The Ling(Cobia) are starting to show up at their usual spots in 40-80ft of water. Some large ones have already been caught. Fishing has been great this summer and continues to get better as we move into fall, espically the YFT bite.

Gulf Coast fishing this time of year is great , since most fish start their fall mirgration and are moving back through. You'll do well going out of Venice or Port Fourchon , La. as fishing has been great East in the Mississippi cayon or West in the green cayon. All you need is some live Hardtails, pogies or threadheron. Cut Pogies work well for Mangrove snapper or the cobia. Get out in 300-400 ft of water and you'll find some nice AJ( rig donkeys ) and Groupers. Live hardtails (Blue Runners ) will do the trick. Make sure and use some floracarbon leader and Supper braid line or you'll have a hard time gettin them out of the rigs.

Til next time, sea ya out on the water and be safe!!
